Douglas Ross MP

Biography

Douglas Ross was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland from 16 December 2019 to 26 May 2020. He was also a Government Whip until 14 February 2020.

He was elected Scottish Conservative MP for Moray in June 2017, and re-elected in December 2019.

Background

Douglas was born in Moray and was educated at Forres Academy and the Scottish Agricultural College.

Political career

Douglas was previously a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Highlands and Islands region from 2016 to 2017. Before this he served as a councillor on Moray Council from 2007 to 2016.

Since his election as an MP, Douglas has been a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Scotland.

Career outside politics

Prior to entering politics Douglas pursued a career in farming, having trained at the Scottish Agricultural College.

He is also a qualified football referee; however, he does not accept refereeing appointments during the week while the UK Parliament is sitting and does not receive an income since becoming a member of the Government.

Personal life

Douglas lives with his wife Krystle. They have one son.
