Dean Churm

Biography

Dean Churm was appointed as the British Consul and Consular Regional Operations Manager for the South-Central region of the USA in 2011. He is based in Florida but has responsibility for the provision of consular services to British nationals across fourteen States, from Wyoming to Florida, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Dean has spent the majority of his career working for the Ministry of Defence in a wide range of appointments. His first overseas posting was to the British Embassy in Washington (1993 – 1998) which was immediately followed by an operational deployment to Croatia as Assistant Civil Secretary. In 2001 he was deployed to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as Civil Secretary. He returned to the British Embassy in Washington in 2002 as the Head of Defence Business Services until 2005 when he was appointed as the British Consul in Orlando. During this time, he was also the Head of a Rapid Deployment Team and was deployed to Haiti where he led the UK government response to locate and assist British nationals requiring assistance following the devastating earthquake that hit the country in January 2010.

In addition to his overseas assignments, Dean has worked in various capacities at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in London. He was Policy Officer for defence relations with Russia, Belarus, and the Central Asian States (1999 - 2000), and Business Development Manager with the Directorate for Central and Eastern Europe (2000 - 2002).

Originally from Shropshire in England, Dean lives to travel in his spare time and is happy to tell his American friends that he has visited all 50 US States.
