Professor David Heymann CBE
Biography
Dr David Heymann joined PHE as Acting Chair in July 2012 and was confirmed as Chair in November 2012.
David was previously Chair of the Health Protection Agency UK and is Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Career highlights:
- 25 years as medical epidemiologist with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with assignments to Asian and African country ministries of health
- 22 years at the World Health Organization in various posts ranging from Chief of Research in the WHO Global Programme on AIDS to director of the Emerging and other Communicable Diseases Programme, and Assistant Director General responsible for communicable diseases and polio eradication
