Dr David Grant CBE

Biography

Dr David Grant CBE joined Innovate UK as Interim CEO in January 2015. David was a member of our Governing Board from 2007 to 2014 and has experience and personal knowledge of Innovate UK.

David is Chairman of STEMNET and Senior Independent Director of Renishaw plc and IQE plc. He is also a non-executive director of the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). Most of David’s career has comprised leadership roles in the electronics and electrical engineering industry. David’s previous roles include:

  • 2001 to 2012 – Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University
  • 2007 to 2012 – Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Engineering

David’s achievements and accolades include: * PhD in Engineering Science at Durham University in 1974 * the IEE’s Mensforth Gold Medal in 1996 * CBE in 1997 for his contribution to the UK’s Foresight Programme * elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1997 * elected an Honorary Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge, in 2000 * elected a Fellow of the Learning Society of Wales in 2011
