David Burrowes

Biography

David Burrowes was appointed the Prime Minister’s Deputy Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief on 20 January 2022.

David is a solicitor specialising in criminal law. Before being elected Member of Parliament for Enfield Southgate in 2005, David was a local Councillor in the Borough of Enfield, which included being a Cabinet Member for Voluntary and Community Development.

As an MP between 2005 and 2017, David championed freedom of religion or belief for all and was a founding member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on International Religious Freedom. Since 2017, David has been the Parliamentary Adviser to Fiona Bruce MP and Chair of the Equity Release Council.

Prime Minister’s Deputy Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief

The Prime Minister’s Deputy Special Envoy supports the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to promote freedom of religion or belief around the world. They do this through bringing together faith representatives, faith organisations and civil society stakeholders.

The Deputy Special Envoy will also work alongside the Minister responsible for Human Rights to drive forward implementing the Bishop of Truro’s recommendations on Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office support for persecuted Christians worldwide.
