Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco and Her Majesty’s non resident Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
Ms. Karen Elizabeth Betts has been Ambassador to Morocco since 12 October 2015. Her previous appointment was as Counsellor at the British Embassy in Washington where she led on foreign and security policy.
Ms Betts joined the FCO in 2001. Prior to her posting in Washington, she worked in the Cabinet Office for the National Security Advisor and as Deputy Chief of Assessments Staff. She has also worked on Middle East, security policy, European and Consular issues in London, Baghdad and the UK’s Permanent Representation to the European Union.

The Ambassador represents Her Majesty The Queen and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
