Claire Burton

Biography

Claire Burton started her role as Regional Director for London in September 2022.

She was previously the Regional Schools Commissioner for South-East England and South London.

Prior to this, Claire was Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Standards and Testing Agency, an executive agency of the Department for Education responsible for the development and delivery of national curriculum tests for primary schools.

Earlier in her career, she has also worked as:

  • Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills
  • Deputy Director for the apprenticeship programme
  • Deputy Director and Director of the academy programme

Regional Director for London

The Regional Director for London is responsible for working locally across children’s social care, SEND, schools and area-based programmes to improve outcomes for children, families and learners. They are responsible for making decisions in the following local authorities:
