Christopher Muttukumaru CB

Biography

Christopher Muttukumaru was appointed as the General Counsel at the Department for Transport (DfT) in 2011.

Career

Christopher leads a group of over 90 lawyers which advises the DfT and its executive agencies.

His government career highlights include:

  • Attorney General’s Office as the EC law expert
  • Secretary to Lord Scott’s Inquiry into the export of defence and dual use equipment to Iraq
  • Deputy Legal Adviser at the Ministry of Defence where he worked on a number of International Law issues including the negotiation of the Statute on the International Criminal Court
  • Legal Adviser to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport
  • Legal Director (Environment, Housing and Local Government) at the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions

In 2012, City University awarded him an honorary doctorate in laws. He was awarded the CB in 2006.
