Chris Wright

Biography

Chris Wright joined the British Embassy in July 2019 as Political Counsellor before taking the position of Acting Deputy Head of Mission in March 2022.

He joined the UK Diplomatic Service in 2003, and was previously Head of Climate Diplomacy in the Foreign Office and has experience working on other multilateral issues including non-proliferation and disarmament.

Previous roles include Washington DC working on US-UK co-operation on foreign and security policy, Vienna leading on transnational threats, Manila leading the political work of the Embassy, and Basra with a focus on political analysis and strategic communications.

Before joining the civil service, he was a youth and community worker giving advice to young people who were not in education, employment or training. He grew up on the coast and loves being near the sea. Outside work he enjoys making music, cooking, walking and travelling.
