Chris Mills
Biography
Chris is responsible for the UK’s IP rights framework, overseeing policy and legislation on copyright, patents, trade marks and designs.
Chris is drawn to roles that sit at the intersection of technology, law and public policy. His career has focused on policy issues involving data, technology, and individual rights – navigating political, technical and legal complexity to make effective public policy. He is particularly passionate about using technology and data more effectively to deliver modern public services.
Prior to joining the IPO, Chris worked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Parliament, and the Home Office in roles spanning technology, legislation and public policy. Before joining the Civil Service in 2012, Chris built a successful career in the technology sector, working as a systems engineer, project manager and technical director. His technical background continues to inform his work, enabling him to effectively bridge between the fields of technology, legislation and business needs.

This role is responsible for all areas of domestic IP rights policy and legislation including Patents, Trade Marks, Designs and Copyright to support UK innovation through IP.
