Chris Martin

Biography

Chris Martin was the Prime Minister’s Principal Private Secretary and Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office from December 2011 until November 2015.

Chris took up his role as the senior official at 10 Downing Street and head of the Prime Minister’s Private Office in December 2011.

Prior to this Chris held Board level roles at the Treasury and a Cabinet Office agency. His work as Director, Public Services included leading the Treasury’s work on public service reform, establishing, with the Cabinet Office, the National Economic Council and leading the public engagement work in the 2010 Spending Review.

Chris has worked directly for three Chancellors of the Exchequer including as Press Secretary to both Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling. He led the team that managed the 2004 Spending Review negotiations. He has also held a number of other roles at HM Treasury focused on public service reform, public spending and supply side reform.
