Chris Hobley

Biography

Chris was appointed Director, Market Access and Budget at DExEU in October 2017. He is an experienced civil servant with a background in EU single market issues and in domestic policy development.

Chris joined the department at its formation in June 2016, where he served as Deputy Director in the Market Access Directorate. In this role, he worked with other departments to prepare for UK - EU exit negotiations in policy areas including transport, energy and goods.

Prior to joining DExEU, Chris undertook a series of roles at the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills. This included Deputy Director positions working on Steel as well as on Company Law & Corporate Governance, where he led on the implementation of the Prime Minister’s G8 corporate transparency commitments.

Previous roles include Acting Deputy Director, Energy Efficiency Delivery & Strategy at the Department for Energy & Climate Change, First Secretary (Employment, Social & Equality) at UKREP in Brussels, and a secondment to Berlin during the German EU Presidency in 2006.
