Charu Gorasia

Biography

Charu was appointed Director General, Capabilities and Resources in July 2018. She is responsible for the Home Office’s people, finance, estates, commercial, projects and programmes portfolio management, performance, risk, assurance, security and science functions.

Prior to this appointment, Charu was the interim Finance Director General at DWP. In this role, Charu had responsibility and oversight for the department’s finance, commercial and estates functions as well as and debt management operation.

Across government, Charu works closely with HM Treasury and Finance Leadership Group, to support, nurture, and develop talent, and was a former member of the DWP Talent Alliance. She is a keen mentor, and a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion.

Originally from India, Charu came to the UK as a science and research analyst subsequently training as an accountant with Daily Mirror Group of newspapers. She has both private and public sector experience as a finance professional.

Outside of work Charu enjoys yoga, gym and walking. She has been vice chair of Parents’ Teachers Association at John Lyon school. She is married with a teenage son.
