Charlotte Fenton

Biography

Charlotte Fenton became the Deputy High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia in January 2020.

Charlotte joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in 1997 in the office of the Permanent Under Secretary. She was later posted to the British Embassy in the Philippines as the Personal Assistant to the Ambassador (2000 to 2003), and thereafter to Bermuda as the Executive Officer to the Governor. Charlotte worked in the FCDO’s Consular Crisis Centre (2007 to 2009) in London, then moved to the British Embassy in Morocco (2009) as the Consul. She took on the added role of Consular Regional Operations Manager for North Africa (2012 to 2014).

Charlotte became the Chief of Staff to the Permanent Representative at the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York (2015 to 2019).

Deputy High Commissioner to Namibia

The Deputy High Commissioner is a senior diplomat and typically an important advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
