Carolyn Griffiths

Biography

Carolyn was appointed chief inspector in 2003 by the Secretary of State for Transport in the UK, to create and lead the independent Rail Accident and Investigation Branch (RAIB).

Her previous roles include:

  • Senior Vice President, Business Processes and Quality, ADtranz
  • Director, New Products, ADtranz
  • Technical Director, Office of the Rail Regulator, UK
  • Engineering Director, South Yorkshire Supertram

Carolyn joined British Rail in 1979 and worked in various roles including shift supervision and maintenance depot management before leaving in 1988 to establish maintenance operations or the new Mass Rapid Transit in Singapore.

She is a Fellow and elected trustee of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers and a trustee of the Engineering Council.
