Professor Caroline Elliott

Biography

Caroline Elliott was appointed as a member of the Regulatory Policy Committee in March 2024.

Caroline is a professor of economics at the University of Warwick and academic director of the Social Science Connect Programme.

Caroline’s experience includes:

  • research and consultancy on applied industrial economics with published research looking at firms’ responses to regulation and competition policy interventions, as well as advertising, quality signalling and pricing decisions
  • previous roles at the universities of Aston, Huddersfield, Lancaster and Manchester
  • publishing in the fields of applied education economics and pedagogy
  • a PhD in economics and econometrics, as well as a masters in economics from the University of Manchester
  • undergraduate degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University

Member, Regulatory Policy Committee

Regulatory Policy Committee members are responsible for:

  • scrutinising the quality of the evidence and analysis supporting the case for why government regulation is necessary under the Better Regulation Framework
  • providing independent expert advice on whether the impact assessments, options assessments and post-implementation reviews for regulations produced by government departments are fit for purpose
