Brian Johnson
Biography
Brian Johnson is the Independent Chair of the Cross Solent Group. The group was set up by the Isle of Wight Council following a ministerial roundtable in April 2025.
Brian was the Chief Executive of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency from 2018 to 2022.
Brian spent over a decade as CEO of 3 affordable housing organisations, including Metropolitan. He has also held interim leadership roles in the bio-pharmaceutical sector.
Brain worked at Tate & Lyle and served as Operations Director at Remploy, leading manufacturing improvements across 80 UK sites.
After graduating as a chemical engineer from Cambridge University, Brian began his career at ICI, where he spent 15 years in research, technology development, and production management.
Brian was appointed CBE in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours for services to maritime.
