Ben Myers

Biography

Ben took up his appointment as the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Israel in January 2023.

He joined the Diplomatic Service in 2009 following an undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge and experiences in the private sector and UN.  In London, he has worked in the South Asia Directorate – with a focus on Pakistan; in the Economics Unit – working on Turkey and Eastern Europe; and in Counter Terrorism Department – with a focus on Somalia.

Ben has served overseas as Head of the Public and Political Affairs Section at the British Embassy in Mexico (2017 to 2022), ending the tour as Acting Deputy Head of Mission. Previously, he was Regional Director of Economic Affairs for Central America at the British Embassy in Panama (2012 to 2015).

Deputy Head of Mission, Israel

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
