Annabelle Malins

Biography

Annabelle Malins served as Her Majesty’s Consul General in Atlanta from September 2009 to August 2013. She lead a team which worked throughout the southeast to support British nationals, conduct public diplomacy on key issues, build scientific co-operation, and expand trans-Atlantic trade and investment. She also sat on the Marshall Scholarship selection committee.

Annabelle was also previously posed in San Francisco where she was the Consul for Science and Innovation. In this role she built UK-US bridges in all aspects of science and technology as well as leading broad-ranging exchanges with leading thinkers in government, business, and academia on climate change and energy issues in California and other West Coast states. Annabelle joined the UK’s diplomatic service in 1999 as a First Secretary. Between 1999 and 2005 she lead teams in London advising Ministers on global issues, bilateral relations and multilateral affairs.

Prior to joining the diplomatic service, Annabelle had an extensive career in the agriculture industry and in international development. Her career has led her to many parts of sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean as well as to India and Latin America.

Annabelle was born in Bradford in the North of England. She has a BSc Hons from Durham University and an MSc from Reading University. Her husband, James Malins, is an agronomist, whose current work focuses on auditing companies for the quality of their products and for their social and environmental practices. She has a son at Glasgow University in Scotland, and another son living with his parents in Atlanta.
