Andrew Ockenden

Biography

Andrew has been leading the UK’s development efforts in Uganda since June 2019. He joined FCDO in 2014 from the private sector, with over 15 years’ experience of managing progressively larger teams and portfolios in the private and public sectors. This has included experience across government; in the UK’s central bank; at large consulting firms, and; on the Board of an impact investment fund. He has extensive practical experience of operating in a range of development contexts: Iraq, Afghanistan, and Sierra Leone during and post-Ebola, Pakistan, India and others. He has drawn on this experience to teach International Development at Master’s level, and to lead work including developing the UK’s approach to private sector development in conflict affected countries.
