Andrew Dent

Biography

Andrew has been on loan to DCMS from the Home Office since February 2022, first as Head of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Team and then as Director of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Government Coordination Centre.

Until January 2022, he was Deputy Registrar General for England and Wales and Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) of the Civil Registration - digitisation and online - Transformation Programme.  Andrew was Director and SRO of the UK Government’s Identity Cards Programme and has a range of project and programme management leadership experience.  He is a Infrastructure and Projects Authority reviewer whose recent reviews have included COP26 and DCMS’s Unboxed programme.

Andrew has broad civil service experience, having worked in policy and operational roles across the immigration and criminal justice systems, as well as in the private offices of the Home Secretary and The Queen, as secretary to inquiries into policing and the murder of Daniel Morgan, and on major events including Millennium Eve, the Golden Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics.  He is also a trustee and chair of the charity Reach Volunteering.

Director for Transformation, Change and Programmes

The Director for Transformation, Change and Programmes is responsible for:

  • transforming BDUK into a highly efficient specialist delivery organisation collaborating across the organisation to drive sustainable and impactful transformation
  • the delivery of the Shared Rural Network programme that will see public and private investment in a network of new and existing phone masts to level up connectivity across the UK
  • BDUK’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme programme
