Andrew Cumpsty

Biography

Andrew Cumpsty was previously Leader of Reading Borough Council (2010 to 2012), and a Councillor from 2004 to 2014. He was previously the co-founder and former Deputy Chairman of the Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership. He is also Founder and Chairman of The Enterprise Forum (since 1997). He is Managing Director of Cumpsty Communications, a company that he founded. Before setting up his own business, he served in senior communications roles for McDonald’s, Ericsson, 3 and Burson Marsteller and is a Freeman of the City of Lancaster.

Member of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments

The role of the committee is to:

  • provide independent advice to the Prime Minister on the application of the government’s Business Appointment Rules to the most senior members of the Civil Service, armed forces, diplomatic service, and intelligence agencies who wish to take up appointments within 2 years of leaving Crown service
  • provide independent advice directly to former ministers on appointments they wish to take up within 2 years of leaving government
