Andrew took up his role as Acting Director General, Finance and Corporate Services Group in September 2013.
Andrew’s previous roles have given him knowledge of a wide range of policy issues, from aviation to neighbourhoods, from pollution control to housing. He has run corporate services for an organisation of more than 2,000 people, including delivering 20% efficiency savings in 1 year. He also worked for 2 years in the European Commission. Other roles include:
- Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions
- Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Scotland
- Director, Local Government Policy from 2006 to 2010
Andrew was awarded the Companion of the Order of Bath (CB) in the Queen’s birthday honours list in 2013.
Director General, Finance and Corporate Services
The DCLG board’s role is to advise and support ministers on the operational implications and effectiveness of policy proposals, focusing on getting policy translated into results.
Part of DCLG’s leadership team, and an executive member of its board, the Director General, Finance and Corporate Services helps to ensure sound financial management of the department, scrutinising the allocation of money and staff to plan for and achieve those results.
