Alison Evans

Biography

Alison joined the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland in October 2018 as Deputy Director for Constitutional Policy, moving to her current role as Deputy Director for Corporate Services in May 2021. Prior to this she had spent most of her career in the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and its predecessor organisations, having joined the Employment Service in 1996 as an Administrative Officer. Her most recent role before joining the Scotland Office was as Head of Devolution External Relations and Scotland Act where she was responsible for leading DWP’s input in the Scotland Act 2016 and supporting Ministers on cross-cutting devolution issues.

Between 2004 and 2015, she headed up a number of policy and change teams in DWP including Jobcentre Plus support and programmes, Parental Employment policy and Automatic Enrolment for Private Pensions. As a change manager she led the EU enlargement project and implemented a number of changes to Jobseeker’s Allowance. During this time, she also undertook a secondment to HMRC as a consultant working on Tax Credit improvements.

Her earlier Civil Service roles include working as an Employment Adviser, a bill team member on the Employment Act 2002 and Assistant Private Secretary to the DWP Permanent Secretary.

The Deputy Director, Corporate Services is responsible for:

  • Departmental strategy including business planning and performance management
  • Corporate Services including corporate governance, HR, finance, accommodation, IT and information management
