Alex Bamford has been Deputy Head of Mission in Copenhagen since 14 July 2014. Before taking up his posting in Denmark, Alex served three years as Head of Political Section responsible for foreign and security policy at the British High Commission in New Delhi. His previous work includes serving as Deputy Head in the FCO’s Corporate Services Directorate, as an Assistant Director at the UK Border Agency and developing Afghan counter narcotics policy. Prior to joining the Civil Service, Alex studied Classics at Durham University. He is married with two daughters.
Deputy Head of Mission, Denmark
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
