Alec Wood

Biography

Alec was appointed as a non-executive director of the SIA in February 2020. He was appointed as Deputy Chair in November 2021.

Career

Alec was previously the Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, retiring in 2018 after 32 years in policing.

Alec was the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) lead for Operations between 2015 and 2018, a role in which he oversaw and set policy and standards for national specialist policing functions. This included: Police use of Firearms, Public Order Policing, Stop and Search, Roads Policing, Aviation and Civil Contingencies.

Alec was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished services to policing in 2019.

Education

Alec was awarded an MA with merit in Criminology by the University of Keele in 2012 and a Certificate in Education by Canterbury Christ Church College in 1996.

Alec completed the Windsor Leadership Trust Executive Leaders Programme in 2016-17.
