Alastair MacGregor

Biography

Alastair MacGregor was called to the English Bar in 1974 and became a QC in 1994. After working for some years in the fields of criminal law and general civil litigation, his practice, both as a junior and as a silk, was concerned mainly with the investigation and resolution of complex commercial disputes.

In 2004 he joined the Criminal Cases Review Commission, the independent public body that looks into alleged miscarriages of justice and refers appropriate cases to the appeal courts. He became the Deputy Chair of the CCRC in 2006 and continued in that role until October 2013.

He was appointed Biometrics Commissioner on 4 March 2013.
