Alan Charlton CMG CVO

Biography

Alan was the British Ambassador to Brazil from December 2008 until June 2013. He was responsible for the promotion of British interests and the delivery of public services in Brazil. As Head of Mission in Brazil, he lead four Posts (Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife), plus the network of Honorary Consuls. Alan was educated at Cambridge, Leicester and Manchester universities. He has a degree in modern languages and linguistics and a post-graduate certificate of education. He was appointed Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1996, and Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in 2007. He is married to Judith Charlton. They have two sons and one daughter who are all working in London.
