Abda Sharif

Biography

Abda Sharif OBE was appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen in September 2023.

Abda joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (now Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) in 2003, working in the Legal Directorate and in the UK Mission to the UN. Between 2006 to 2008, she was posted to Baghdad as a Legal Adviser and Head of Justice and Human Rights Section.

From 2009 to 2011, Abda served as the Deputy Head of Mission to the UK Delegation to the Council of Europe. In 2011, Abda was the Head of the UK Office in Benghazi, Libya. Staying within the region, Abda was then the Deputy Ambassador in Beirut from 2012 to 2016.  In 2016 Abda returned to London, working in the Cabinet Office and the FCDO, most recently as the Head of the Iraq and Arabian Peninsula Department.
