About us

The Government Decontamination Service was originally set up as an independent agency in October 2005 but then became part of the Food and Environment Research Agency in April 2009. The service helps the UK prepare for the recovery following a deliberate act involving chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) materials, or an accidental release of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in excess of local capability and/or knowledge.
