Our governance

How the work of the Office for Responsible Business Conduct (ORBC) is overseen.

The Office for Responsible Business Conduct (ORBC)’s work is overseen by an independent board.

The board is not directly involved in decision making on cases submitted to the ORBC or policy-related decisions.

Its primary role is to ensure that the ORBC meets the UK’s obligations in relation to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines and provide constructive challenge and support to ensure its effectiveness. It also conducts procedural reviews of ORBC decisions.

The board is comprised of:

  • external members from stakeholder groups such as businesses, trade unions and non-governmental organisations
  • representatives from relevant government departments
  • independent members
