About us
The Labour Market Evidence Group supports the government's aim to shift the balance of the labour market from relying on overseas workers and towards employing more domestic workers.
The Labour Market Evidence Group (LMEG) is a cross-government partnership of the Industrial Strategy Council, Migration Advisory Committee, Department for Work and Pensions and Skills England, and their counterparts in the devolved governments.
The LMEG is a collaboration forum that shares evidence and analysis to support the UK Government’s aim to shift the balance of the labour market from a reliance on overseas workers and towards employing more domestic workers.
The LMEG works across the UK including the UK Government and the devolved governments. It provides analysis and evidence to inform and support government policy.
How the LMEG works
The LMEG brings together data, research and evidence from government and stakeholders to understand what the UK labour market needs. This helps make sure migration, skills, industrial strategy and labour market policies work well together.
The group also aims to improve co-ordination in policy and delivery by sharing evidence across the UK and strengthening data and research on labour market issues for the future.
You can read the LMEG terms of reference.
The LMEG does not make policies, but it provides evidence to help the government make decisions. Each member organisation will publish evidence in its own reports. The workplan was shared with ministers in a letter on 8 August 2025.
