The Government Recruitment Service (GRS) was launched in September 2017 and is part of Civil Service HR in the Cabinet Office. As an ‘in-house’ provider, GRS works to meet recruitment needs across government. We deliver around 70 per cent of the recruitment volume across the Civil Service and aspire to be the recruitment partner of choice for all Civil Service departments, agencies and approved non-departmental public bodies.

As an in-house provider, GRS works to meet recruitment needs across government. We deliver around 70 per cent of the recruitment volume across the Civil Service and aspire to be the recruitment partner of choice for all Civil Service departments, agencies and approved non-departmental public bodies.
- We are run by civil servants for civil servants, with an in-depth understanding of how government works.
- We have privileged access to the experience and data recruiting departments need.
- We recruit for all roles and grades, including Senior Civil Servants.
- Our service ‘menu’ is built around customer need, with the flexibility to take on as much or as little of their recruitment campaign as they need.
- We offer a personal service, which includes a dedicated account manager.
Our experienced in-house Occupational Psychology team works at the leading edge of assessment and selection techniques, which include accessible, highly responsive online tests. We are also at the forefront of digital developments, with a recently introduced applicant tracking system configured specifically for the Civil Service. Our dedicated teams additionally include:

GRS has recently been shortlisted for a string of recruitment awards. In December 2019, we received a Bronze Award for the prestigious In-house Recruitment Awards (Recruitment Team - Not-for-Profit / Public Sector category). We were also nominated for an ‘Art Direction’ award at the Recruitment Marketing Awards in October 2019, and recently won the Gold Flex Award for the Civil Service in the Flexible Working ‘People’s Choice’ awards. One of our assessment products, the Civil Service Judgement Test, won the Association of Business Psychology’s Excellence in Assessment Award in 2018. It has also been shortlisted for several other awards.
