About our services

The Defence Electronics and Components Agency provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, upgrade and obsolescence management for a diverse range of avionic and electronic equipment.

As an MOD in-house capability we have developed a long-standing pedigree in the delivery of electronic, optronic, avionic, cryptographic and general engineering capability for MOD and industry delivered from our state-of-the-art facilities and continually strive to adapt and grow to meet customer needs.

Maintenance, repair, overhaul, upgrade, modification and test

We provide maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities for a range of electronic and general equipment for MOD platforms including:

  • communications and navigational equipment, HF, VHF & UHF systems, primary and secondary radar systems, IFF, radar altimeters and Doppler radar systems, tactical and navigational aids and electronic counter measures

  • fibre optics husbandry, manufacture, repair and test

  • cable manufacture and repair

  • microwave technologies - repair of micro miniature components, plasma and ultrasonic cleaning, pull and shear testing, parallel gap welding and thermo compression

  • electrical and instruments - linear and rotary actuators, motors, generators, alternators, fuel pumps, temperature and speed sensors, indicators, pressure transmitters, switches, probes and gyros

  • laser - fault diagnosis and repair of sub-assemblies of the Laser Rangefinder and Marked Target Seeker (LRMTS) system, calibration and alignment of class 4 lasers and optics

  • WESCAM European approved service centre


DECA’s Tri-Service calibration facility provides electrical/electronic and mechanical calibration services including:

  • electrical/electronic - frequency, voltage, current, temperature and time

  • mechanical - force, pressure, torque and dimensions

Automatic test equipment (ATE)

We have a team of experienced Test Development engineers whose core activity is the creation of test software for ATE and the migration of test software from legacy ATE systems as part of obsolescence management programs. Test Solutions offers specialised capabilities:

  • design and integration of ATE solutions for digital, analogue and RF units

  • produce automated test solutions for power supply and chassis testing

  • design and manufacture of test hardware

Medical and dental

Mobile and deployed support teams provide Tri-Service support to primary healthcare and dental equipment units based in the UK. DECA supports this by employing 16 Medical & Dental Support Service (MDSS) technicians based at eight locations.

Cryptographic services

DECA cryptographic maintenance and storage facilities are cleared for the full depth repair of MOD top secret classification (Class 4 secure vault – Tempest cleared) electronics. Facilities and services include:

  • United States National Security Agency approved repair facilities

  • approved European depot facility for Identification Friend or Foe cryptographic equipment

  • full depth repair hub located at Sealand

  • in depth repair of ‘High Grade’ cryptographic equipment including modification and upgrade and the development of bespoke cryptographic test solutions

  • deployable teams in support of Tri-Service cryptographic systems

Obsolescence management

We offer obsolescence support services through application of product knowledge and experience to support the mitigation of obsolescence risk to legacy systems. Services include:

  • implementing JSP886, Volume 7, Part 8.13

  • ensuring the provenance of repair Bills of Material

  • identifying obsolete and potential obsolescent parts

  • mitigating obsolescence risk by analysing engineering and supply data including recommending alternative solutions

Procurement services

As an Executive Agency, DECA follows MOD guidance and regulations for its purchasing arrangements. Procurement services on offer are:

  • IPR neutrality and access to ITAR giving DECA procurement capabilities for a wide range of products

  • specialised procurement and tender management of electronic and electrical components

General engineering services

At Stafford, we provide a bespoke service to deliver turnkey projects on time and to the highest standards including:

  • the maintenance, repair, overhaul, upgrade and modification of aircraft components and structures, mechanical and electrical ground support equipment, lifting tackle, safety and survival equipment, and space heaters

  • manufacture and refurbishment of specialist role deployable cabins

  • refurbishment and servicing of all types of airborne gas cylinders, cryogenic plant and equipment

  • manufacture and repair of wooden special-to-content containers (STCC)

  • re-paint, powder coat and media-stripping facility

  • portable aircraft arrestor gear (PAAG) service and repair

  • sheet metal work and welding (including aircraft structures welding)

  • mobile support teams in support of fixed critical air assets such as Air Separation Units (ASU)

Our facilities

  • purpose built electronic workshops (Class 4 Tempest cleared) including Class 7 clean rooms.

  • fuel pump test facility containing Class 1 & 2 safe zones.

  • United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited calibration laboratory which can calibrate and repair general purpose and special-to-type test equipment

  • cryptographic maintenance and storage facilities (Class 4 secure vault-Tempest cleared) custom provisioned compact antenna range (Anechoic Chamber)

  • audiometrics laboratory

  • cryogenics school of excellence accredited to UKAS 17020:2012 Type B Inspection Body providing training for military personnel in the use of gaseous substances

  • carpentry workshop to manufacture and repair wooden STCC
