Wales Office Minister David Jones today met with representatives of the police authorities in Wales to outline the Coalition Government’s plans for policing in Wales.

Mr Jones said: “Today’s meeting was a good opportunity for me to meet the police authorities and outline the Government’s commitment to policing in Wales.  The police authorities have a crucial role to play in representing police forces across Wales and the Wales Office will do all it can to help them fulfil their roles.

“As the Government continues to make reducing the deficit its priority the police, like all sectors, will have to bear a fair share of the burden.   The police authority representatives did raise a number of issues with me, including funding, and I will now take these back to the Policing Minister.

“I hope this meeting will be the start of a very constructive relationship between the police authorities and the Wales Office.”
