UK presence at Defexpo India 2014

Innovation and partnership are the main UK themes as over 20 companies exhibit a range of world beating capabilities at Defexpo 2014.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The UK presence reflects the strong commitment that UK companies have to support the Indian armed forces and generate long term joint ventures and partnerships.

Dr Andrew Murrison, UK Minister for International Security Strategy is leading a high level delegation from the UK Ministry of Defence and UKTI DSO (UK Trade & Investment Defence and Security Organisation). This is following the Permanent Secretary’s visit to India earlier this week for the Defence Consultative Group, strategic bilateral talks.

A demonstration area is manned by soldiers from the UKTI DSO export support team to advice on exhibiting equipment relating to disaster relief, security and border/maritime protection. All the team members have had operational experience.

Dr Murrison said:

India is an important partner and we are continuing to deepen and strengthen our defence relationship. We value our long relationship with India and welcome every opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities faced by both our armed forces and to share experience.

The world is ever changing and securing the safety of our citizens requires an ever increasing breadth of tactics, doctrine and equipment, much of which we see here at defexpo.

I am very keen that UK companies look for partners in India so that we can continue to share knowledge, understanding and technology that can only strengthen our ties.

Richard Paniguian said:

India is a very important defence and security market for the UK and defexpo 2014 gives UK companies an opportunity to showcase a range of capabilities, which I believe will interest the Indian Armed Forces. The Demonstration Area with the theme of disaster relief reflects the interest of many countries in the region. I am also keen to see more industrial cooperation between UK and Indian companies in the defence and security sectors and the creation of more partnerships based around technology sharing. This is the key to future success.

Both UK industry and UKTI Defence and Security Organisation look forward to a successful exhibition defexpo 2014.
