UK brings expert delegation to Raisina Conference

There will be significant presence from the UK at Raisina Dialogue 2019, India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.

Leading the delegation will be Sir Mark Sedwill, UK National Security Adviser, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the UK’s Civil Service. Sir Mark will participate in headline session ‘The Road to 2030: Challenges, Partnerships and Predictions,’ which will consider the shape of the world in 2030. Sir Mark will be joined in India by UK experts from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Department for International Development (DFID), International Counter-Terrorism Unit, Intellectual Property Office and UK Foreign Office.

British High Commissioner to India, Sir Dominic Asquith, said:

The range of expertise within this excellent delegation speaks to the breadth and depth of the UK-India relationship. I’m delighted the UK will be discussing issues as diverse as global security, extremism, development and innovation: an accurate reflection of the many shared challenges India and the UK face.

In addition to Sir Mark, the official UK delegation comprises:

She is the British Army’s most senior female officer. She will be discussing issues such as accountability, legal instruments for autonomous weapons and cyber exploitation.

Peter Vowles, Asia Director, UK DFID

He will participate in a discussion looking at future growth in Africa, considering the current trade and financial architecture, financial inclusion and Africa’s needs.

Chris Felton, Deputy Director, UK Joint International Counter-Terrorism Unit

He will discuss the role of the individual and the state in combating online and offline extremism.

Pippa Hall, Director of Innovation and Chief Economist at the Intellectual Property Office

She will discuss innovation hubs, digital transformation, big data, AI and a new era of intangible economics. She recently visited Delhi for the India-UK Future Tech Festival.

Philip Parham, UK government’s Envoy to the Commonwealth

He will participate in an online panel discussion focused on the Commonwealth, discussing its relevance for the 21st century.

  • MEP Geoffrey Van Orden, CEO for Children’s Investment Fund Kate Hampton,
  • Charles Powell, businessman (and former Private Secretary to PM Thatcher)
  • Dr Catherine Mulligan, Research Fellow, Imperial College London
