The United Kingdom wishes to congratulate the Philippine Government, the Bangsamoro Transition Commission, the Commission on Elections and all those involved in the 21 January plebiscite on the successful ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).

Ratification of the BOL presents a truly historic opportunity for lasting peace and prosperity in Mindanao. The UK has directly supported the Peace Process for many years, and stands ready to continue this support during the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

The UK condemns Sunday’s bomb attack in Jolo. The Minister for Asia and the Pacific and the British Ambassador have both offered their condolences:

I totally condemn Sunday’s bomb attack in Jolo. Our prayers are with all the victims and their loved ones. The UK stands with the Philippines against terror and hatred.

British Ambassador to the Philippines, Daniel Pruce, said:

Appalling attacks in Jolo on Sunday. I utterly condemn those responsible. My thoughts are with the innocent victims and their loved ones.
