The United Kingdom welcomes the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law by the Congress and its subsequent signing by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on 27 July 2018.
We commend the Philippine government, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and other stakeholders for their efforts to finalise this landmark legislation. With the continuing commitment of the parties, the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao provides – to all – an historic opportunity to secure long-lasting peace, development and prosperity in the Bangsamoro.
The United Kingdom remains steadfast in its commitment to support the peace process, and the social, political and economic transformation of the region in the years ahead.
