Smoother and safer journeys on the M1 and A1, London/Herts
Drivers will benefit from smoother and safer journeys on the M1 and A1 following resurfacing work which starts next week (Monday 23 June).
The overnight resurfacing work will take place on the M1 between junction 1, Brent Cross and junction 6, Bricket Wood and on the A1 between Rowley Lane and junction 2, Welham Green.

The work is being carried out as part of the Government’s investment in infrastructure and will involve resurfacing sections of the M1 and A1, and new white lines and road studs. This will help improve safety and lead to smoother journeys.
We have planned this work to minimise disruption and that is why work will take place overnight, when traffic flows are at their lowest. To allow the work to take place, we will need to close the M1 or A1 in one direction at a time. Drivers will be able to continue their journeys by following a clearly signed diversion.
Work will begin on Monday 23 June and is expected to be complete in late August. All work will take place overnight between 10pm and 5.30am from Monday to Thursdays and between 11pm and 6am on Friday nights. No work will take place on weekend nights.
The first phase of resurfacing work will start on Monday 23 June on the A1 southbound between the M25 and Rowley Lane, and is planned to finish in the morning of Wednesday 2 July. Road users will be diverted onto the A1081 St Albans Road southbound towards Barnet, then onto the A411 Wood Street westbound to re-join the A1 southbound at Stirling Corner Roundabout.
