SLC goes virtual with open day

The Student Loans Company is hosting a virtual open day, in conjunction with UCAS, on 23 January to help prospective students with their finance queries.

The open day will help students prepare for university, ahead of the funding applications opening in the coming weeks.

Claire McGhee, Head of Customer Communications and Marketing at the Student Loans Company, said: “We have lots of information available for students, such as our beginner’s guide to student finance and information on how to apply for funding and pay it back, so prospective students can get ready to apply for finance.

“Our social media advisors will be leading the live sessions on the day on our Student Finance England Facebook and Twitter channels.

“Students can use #SFEOPENDAY on Twitter to ask their student finance questions and see what others are asking.”

Students are advised to apply for finance as early as possible, to ensure their funding is in place at the start of term, and are not required to have a confirmed university place as this can be easily updated.

The Company has also published a series of videos on YouTube to help students applying for financial support for the first time this year, with details on how to apply, the support available and how to repay.

Courteney Sheppard, UCAS’ Customer Experience Manager, said: “Now the UCAS deadline has passed, it’ll soon be time to apply for student finance support.

“The virtual open day on 23 January is a great opportunity to find out more and have your questions answered by the experts at Student Finance England using #SFEOPENDAY.

“Remember, you can apply for finance while you’re waiting for offers from your chosen universities and colleges.”
