Senior Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Rt Hon Baroness Warsi PC, will arrive in the United Arab Emirates today, Tuesday 10th September 2013, at the beginning of a tour in the Gulf region where she will promote the UK as the preferred choice for the Muslim world to invest in and do business with.

Baroness Warsi, who co-chairs the British Government’s first ministerial Task Force on Islamic Finance, will meet with senior government officials and business people operating in the Islamic Finance sector.

Ahead of the visit, Baroness Warsi said:

I look forward to my first ministerial visit to the United Arab Emirates. The UK and the UAE are important trade partners and this visit is aimed at deepening our co-operation on Islamic finance. As a truly global financial capital, I am honoured London has been chosen to host the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum next month, the first time it’s been held outside the Muslim World. I am determined we use this opportunity for both our countries to work together to help the Islamic Finance sector grow, and my visit is to explore ways to achieve this goal.

Earlier this year, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai announced his plan to turn Dubai into a Global Capital for Islamic Economy.
