Safer journeys from A590 overnight repairs

A £150,000 Highways Agency overnight resurfacing project along the westbound carriageway of the A590 around Lindale Hill in Cumbria will start next week.

Six nights of work – between 8pm and 6am each night – will start on Monday (13 October) along the westbound section of the dual carriageway between Meathop Roundabout and the junction with the B5721 Cartmel Road.

Highways Agency project manager Peter Gee said:

This is routine work to tackle wear and tear and ensure road users can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.

We have timed the work to take place overnight when traffic along the A590 is at its lightest to help minimise inconvenience to drivers.

Work on the project requires a lane closure along the westbound carriageway during the day with a 40mph speed limit in place past the works.

At times overnight westbound drivers may be held at temporary traffic signals and led past the roadworks at 10mph by a contractor’s vehicle.

Access from the central reserve to the B5271 from the A590 eastbound carriageway will be closed during the works and the westbound exit slip road to the B5271 will be closed overnight on Monday 13 October and Wednesday 15 October.
