Resurfacing and new road markings for M53

Ongoing work to tackle wear and tear along the M53 will be continuing into the autumn with a £450,000 Highways Agency project to resurface the carriageway and renew road markings along the motorway between junction 5 at Eastham and junction 8 at Ellesmere Port Docks.

Ten nights of work will be carried out between Tuesday 16 September and Friday 10 October with single carriageway, junction-to-junction closures needed to allow the work to be delivered safely.

Highways Agency project sponsor Jakub Malaj said:

This is routine work to tackle wear and tear and ensure drivers using the M53 can continue to enjoy safe and reliable journeys.

All the work will be done overnight between 10pm and 5am or 7am on Saturdays and Sundays. Good, clearly-signed diversions will be in place when either the southbound or northbound carriageway is closed between junctions.

In June, the Agency’s North West director Alan Shepherd reassured residents that resurfacing and other repairs for the M53 were scheduled for and being delivered this year.
