Congratulations to all those working in the local government, housing, fire and voluntary sector whose hard work and dedication have been recognised in the New Year Honours List. This year’s list contains a significant number of people from these sectors reflecting the huge impact they have on society.

Local Government Minister Grant Shapps said:

I am thrilled to see the hard work and achievement of so many colleagues in local government and other related services recognised in this way. This is a great acknowledgement of their efforts to improve the lives of local people. My congratulations to everyone on the Honours List

Recipients for services to Local Government include:

  • Michael Chater OBE, lately Chairman National Association of Local Councils

  • Ian Sumnall OBE, Chief Executive, Arun District Council

  • Mohammad Bhatti MBE for services to Local Government and to the community

  • David Bill MBE, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council

  • Jeremy Kite MBE, Leader, Dartford Borough Council

  • Peter Martin MBE DL, Leader, Essex County Council

  • Bob Tidy MBE, lately of East Sussex County Council

  • Kevin Wilson MBE, Member, Milton Keynes Council

  • Dudley Mead MBE, for services to civic society, London Borough of Croydon

  • Tim Stimpson MBE, facilities manager, Oxfordshire County Council

Recipients for services to Fire and Rescue include:

  • Desmond Prichard OBE QFSM, Chief Fire Officer, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service
  • Christopher Anderson QFSM, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, North Yorkshire FRS
  • Peter Crook QFSM, Group Manager, Hampshire FRS
  • Howard Robinson QFSM, Director and Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Leicestershire FRS
  • David Honeywill MBE, for services to Fire and Rescue Services and the local community, Devon and Somerset FRS
  • Rudy Parkes MBE, for National and International fund raising, West Midlands FRS
  • Peter Thorpe MBE, Devon and Somerset FRS

Recipients for services to Housing include:

  • Fiona MacGregor OBE, Head of Affordable Housing, Homes and Communities Agency
  • Susan Ratchford OBE, Chair, Northwards Housing in North Manchester

The New Year Honours List also recognised many community and faith group activists who are supporting volunteering, fundraising, social action and philanthropy in their local area.
