New road markings to keep journeys safe on the M3 near Winchester

Road markings will be repainted on the M3 next week to keep journeys safe and reliable between junction 8 (A303) and junction 9 (A34).

The work is being carried out as part of the government’s commitment to invest in infrastructure and will involve overnight carriageway closures, in one direction at a time, and will be completed in the morning of Friday 18 July.

Highways Agency Project Manager Guy Watts said:

We will be repainting the road markings on the M3 between junctions 8 and 9 to keep journeys safe and reliable. To minimise disruption we will close one carriageway at a time and have planned the work to take place overnight, when we know traffic flows are lowest.

The work will be carried out overnight, between 10pm and 6am.

The southbound carriageway will be closed on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 July and the northbound closed on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July.

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place via the A34 and A303.
