The new Ambassador starts her time as British Ambassador to Congo as the UK plans to deepen its bilateral relations with the country and promote increased British investment there.
Following her presentation of credentials to President Sassou, Ms Corner said:
“We hope to work with the Republic of Congo, particularly with President Sassou, to restore stability and lasting peace in the Great Lakes region. We hope to work closely together with Congo and with our partners”.
Touching on climate change, the Ambassador said:
“We have a close cooperation on the Congo Basin forest. We are working with Norway to protect the Congolese forest, which is unique and also important for biodiversity and for the fight against climate change. The UK is one of the major donors for the protection of these forests”.
