Minister Mark Simmonds visits Gabon

Foreign Office Minister for Africa Mark Simmonds visited Gabon on 22- 23 May 2014 in the margins of the third annual New York Forum in Libreville.

Minister Simmonds addressed young Gabonese delegates in Libreville on UK engagement in Africa. His speech focused on UK’s offer from the British Council and DFID to provide opportunities for young Africans.

The forum which attracted six current and former Heads of State was an opportunity for Mr. Simmonds to hold bilateral meetings with Presidents Samba-Panza (Central Africa Republic), Ali Bongo (Gabon), Paul Kagame (Rwanda).

With president Samba-Panza, he discussed security, democracy and humanitarian support to CAR from the international community to. With president Bongo, discussions centred around prosperity, security and wildlife. Mr Simmonds also discussed prosperity, the Great Lakes and the PSVI Summit in London 9-11 June.
