inaugural London-to-Accra Economic Growth Summit brings together UK and Ghanaian leaders to explore new pathways for sustainable economic development
-
the Summit positions the British Ghanaian diaspora as a driving force for shared prosperity between two dynamic cities – London and Accra
-
the Summit will feature keynote addresses, expert panels and presentations on boosting trade and investment between the UK and Ghana, and concludes with the Creatives Takeover Mixer, celebrating diaspora-led innovation in music, fashion, and the arts
Taking place at the Bank of Ghana headquarters, the Summit will convene 200 influential leaders from the UK and Ghana, including policymakers, investors, innovators, and creatives, to chart strategies for long‑term, inclusive economic growth.
The Summit forms part of the London to Accra campaign - an initiative designed to strengthen social, cultural, and economic connections between the UK and Ghana.
Remittances, including from the UK‑Ghana diaspora continue to serve as a vital source of external financing for Ghana’s development, supporting entrepreneurship, education, housing, and innovation. The Summit will explore strategies to transition this remittance‑driven support into tangible opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange, promoting mutual economic growth.
The event will also shine a spotlight on the rapidly growing creative industries - one of the most vibrant sectors linking London and Accra. Through panel discussions, the Summit will celebrate the global impact of Ghanaian music, fashion, design, film, and digital culture, showcasing how cultural capital is shaping international markets and transforming economic narratives.
Delegates will hear keynote addresses from HE Dr. Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiamah, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and senior Ghanaian government ministers, alongside panels featuring leading voices in investment, innovation, and the creative arts.
Topics will include:
- remitting to invest: evolving diaspora financial flows
- London and Accra as powerhouses for economic growth
- unleashing the potential of cities through culture, people and creativity
- diaspora as a bridge for trade and investment
HE Dr Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana ahead of the Summit said:
The British Ghanaian diaspora is more than a connector – it is the backbone of our shared vision for growth.
The UK is proud to champion this renewed approach to diaspora engagement, unlocking opportunities for trade, investment, and collaboration that benefit both of our nations.
Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of Bank of Ghana also added:
At the Bank of Ghana, we are committed to building the policy and regulatory infrastructure to support diaspora investment – from foreign exchange reforms to digital financial services and securing low-cost remittance channels. This summit is a powerful moment to turn cultural pride into economic purpose.
The London‑to‑Accra Economic Growth Summit marks an important milestone in strengthening the economic, cultural, and social ties between the UK and Ghana. By convening influential voices from across sectors and harnessing the power of the diaspora, the Summit sets the stage for deeper collaboration, innovative partnerships, and long‑term investment opportunities.
As London and Accra continue to emerge as interconnected centres of creativity, entrepreneurship, and economic potential, this Summit represents a pivotal step toward building a more inclusive and prosperous future for communities across both nations. The ideas, partnerships, and commitments forged here will form the foundation for ongoing cooperation and sustained growth in the years ahead.
The UK government is committed to advancing diaspora engagement as a pillar of its international economic strategy –and Ghana is no exception – recognising the unique role the Ghanaian diaspora communities play in fostering trade, investment, and cultural exchange between nations.
