Chevening is the UK government’s global scholarship programme that offers future leaders an opportunity to study a postgraduate course at any university in the UK. Every year, Chevening supports more than 1,500 scholars globally. There are about 56,000 global Chevening alumni, 19 of which are current or former heads of state or government officials. Taiwan Chevening Scholarships, which started in 1990, are jointly funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and two local partners - the Delta Electronics Foundation and Dr Winston Wong OBE. There are now more than 240 Chevening Scholars from Taiwan.

Lord Faulkner of Worcester, UK Trade Envoy to Taiwan said:

Chevening Scholarships have contributed tremendously to identifying and cultivating global talents and strong people-to-people exchanges world-wide through the powerful impacts of the alumni network. I hope the Chevening connection with Taiwan continues to live on and grow strong with Chevening alumni and local partnerships to advance ties between the UK and Taiwan.

CHENG Wen-Tsan, Vice Premier said:

I am glad to see young Taiwanese people acquiring expertise and communication skills to develop their career as well as assist in expanding Taiwan’s interactions and exchanges with the world. Take for example important issues of climate change and energy transition. There are already quite a few Taiwanese Chevening scholars devoting themselves to energy industrial innovation and public policy initiatives, nurturing Taiwan’s industrial competitiveness on the global stage.

John Dennis, Representative at the British Office Taipei said:

As we celebrate this remarkable 40th year milestone, let us reflect on the journeys of over 240 scholars from Taiwan that have joined our Chevening community. They are leaders, innovators, and visionaries, each with their unique stories and experiences. Chevening scholars as well as our current Chevening partners, the Delta Electronics Foundation and Dr Winston Wong OBE are a testament to the transformative power of education, the Chevening spirit, and the vibrancy of the UK-Taiwan relationship.

YEH Chih-Cheng, Chevening alumnus and Director General, Department of International Cooperation and Science Education, NSTC said:

When I applied for the Chevening Scholarship, I hoped to become a proficient civil servant that could provide service to the R&D community and help drive Taiwan’s industrial development forward. 24 years later, I am promoting international scientific and technological cooperation for Taiwan, and I had the privilege to accompany NSTC Minister WU Tsung-Tsong to London Tech Week in June. Taiwan and the UK now work together to help drive technological advancements, economic growth and meaningful change on a global scale, and I am proud that I am a part of that because of Chevening.

Applications for Chevening Scholarships 2024/25 year are now open until 7 November. Taiwan Chevening Scholarships cover one year master’s degree course tuition fees. To apply, eligible applicants need to have completed all components of an undergraduate degree and have at least two years of work experience.
